Notice that slow-moving combine up ahead? We know it’s not the most convenient thing to follow, but it’s part of our work. Our farm isn’t just one large field; it’s like a patchwork quilt of various plots spread out over different locations.
We move the combine only when necessary. Fuel costs are high, and this isn’t a fast process.
The pickup truck behind the combine is towing a 30-foot corn or soybean head. I’m driving it, making sure to turn carefully and watch for mailboxes—sometimes my kids are in the backseat, making it a family effort.
And that UPS driver and blue SUV? They’ve been patiently waiting behind us. Even though we’re moving at 15-20 mph, they’re taking it in stride. Their patience helps keep everyone safe, and they understand that harvest is just a temporary disruption.
I’ll wave my thanks as soon as I turn onto another road. A big thank you to all of you who help keep the roads safe during this busy season. We see your patience and truly appreciate it.
